21. JOB DESCRIPTION FOR SAFETY OFFICER
Job Title : Safety Officer
1. JOB PURPOSE:
Monitors contractors' safety performance on site as to conformance to the Contractor and COMPANY’s SHE plans and procedures.
2. KEY RESULT AREAS:
• Monitors contractors' safety performance on site as to conformance to the Contractor and COMPANY’s SHE plans and procedures, and project objectives.
• Monitors project adherence to applicable rules, regulations, procedures and safe working practices.
• Participates in pre-task planning I Method Statements and reviews of JHAs for site activities.
• Reviews accident I incident investigations and contractor incident reports for completeness.
• Performs safety walk-throughs I inspections of facilities and work areas and submits findings with recommendations on improvement and work practices.
• Provides technical advice on SHE issues or queries and provides advice and assistance aimed at emphasizing safe behaviors, increasing safety awareness, and reducing incident.
• Monitors contractor compliance to applicable Permit to Work Systems
• Assists Contractors in meeting SHE expectations as required.

• Works in an evolving business environment where improvement opportunities are being identified on a continuous basis adding additional complexity and workload to the existing environment.
• Works effectively within established policies and procedures, and participates in the further development of these to meet changing needs.
• Works in a highly dynamic team environment that has tight-deadlines, high pressure and visibility, requiring accuracy, initiative and the ability to multi-task as essential skills.

4. COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
• Interfaces among various project teams and departments on issues relating to the position. This requires effective communication, initiative, flexibility and an ability to induce collaboration.
• Exhibits team leadership skills, integrity, interpersonal understanding, and self- confidence.
5. PROBLEM SOLVING/COMPLEXITY:
• Utilizes a systematic approach to problem solving that ensures accuracy, timeliness and quality of documentation in resolution.
• Able to work moderately complex tasks to completion within time constrains of Project, with minimal guidance from more experienced staff.
• Participates in the resolution of problems in more demanding and less familiar situations using precedent and own acquired knowledge.
6. DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY:
• Able to work within a defined role with limited supervision.
• Able to make decisions and solve problems related to a specific discipline/field.
• Responsible for own work product with minimal guidance and oversight from
immediate supervisor.
• Establishes credibility with peers and supervisors and makes good use of their time.
• Exercises judgment in making decisions; knows when to seek advice.
7. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Good written and verbal skills.
• Ability to communicate with personnel at all levels of the project.
• Conversant with codes and standards of practice relevant to SHE.
• Minimum of ten (10) years broad experience in Oil and Gas safety.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Safety Officer on major projects.
